Another project we rushed in for a great customer in Upper Saint Clair  Township. They recently purchased their home and wanted to get it shaped up before moving in. We were asked to remove wallpaper in two rooms and  paint four plus the hallway and staircase.

Wallpaper in master bedroom was hideous, so down it came down.
Getting it out of these tight areas is always a blast!

Once the paper is off we scrape and sand the walls to remove any leftover residue. We like to skim coat the walls with drywall joint compound to eliminate imperfections and then do a final sanding.

A good coat of Sherwin Williams ProBlock Primer to seal it and then the Paint!

The second rooms wallpaper removal was a little easier but still time consuming. Two of the rooms had accent walls.

Replacing all the old vent and outlet covers can really help to finish off a beautiful paint job! We usually do our brushwork first, then roll the walls second. We used Sherwin Williams Emerald Matte Finish for these silky smooth walls. Don't forget to use the right roller cover for the paint you are applying!

Here's one from earlier this year where we replaced a really old eccentric linoleum floor with a fresh new look! Here at the start you can see the old being replaced by Sedona Traffic Master Allure vinyl flooring!

This was difficult due to the room not having a main straight wall!. All cabinet base parts, closets, doorways, halls and hot water registers. We did get it in the end!

Then there were all the cuts needed to add this new base board and quarter round. We lost count.

All in all though, everyone was happy with the finished product.

We were fortunate to get in with Essig Renovation to do this grand exterior in Brookline.

From drab to fab this place really changed!! We were able to transform  this space with vibrant colors and sparkling accents!! The process was  time consuming but the result was pretty grand.

Working with Eccentricity Design, a local interior designer,  we started  out by getting the walls covered with the vibrant colors she selected.

We used Sherwin Williams Emerald for this job and choosing the right walls also made for some dynamic features.

After some test patterns done on sample boards the owner chose this phenomenal swirl design. Using a metallic "Tequila Gold" the base pattern was painted free hand onto the wall with the pattern wrapping around the corners.

Once the main swirls were added to the wall using 4, 3 and 2 inch brushes. the secondary and tertiary swirls were added using 1 inch and smaller brushes. The subtle accents were added to the secondary and tertiary swirls with a Bronze glaze mixture.

Most of the details were placed on the upper half of the wall so the furniture would not block the finer details.

The pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the metallic gold and bronze glazing. I wish you could all see it in person.

We once again had the opportunity to do some interior painting, this  time in the South Park area. There was plenty of new trim and lots of  unwanted wallpaper! This what it looked like finishing up.

Here's a spacious beauty we finished painting this past summer!!

Sherwin Williams Duration was successful once again and the neutral color palette worked well in this well lit spacious interior. Another modern open floor plan leads from the two story entry into the two story living room and into the gorgeous kitchen area. Off the main space is the formal dining room and the music room is across the foyer from the dining room.

This was a fantastic exterior painting project that really had us on our game!

When we first looked at the house, Meli Plastering was renovating the stucco, some foundation work and associated trim. Our job was to paint everything that wasn't stucco!

Around back is a superb second floor porch and many unique architectural accents. Our crew was hard at work with ladders and scaffolding everywhere.

We eventually worked our way back to the front of the house and to this amazing front porch.

Another past project that never made it onto the Blog was this beautiful space in Nevillewood.

The original trim had been given a very poor "distressed" look. Well at least we hoped they tried to do this! With the green walls, the new owner was feeling pretty ill.

We started with a good preparatory sanding and cleaning then off to the prime coat. The top coat applied was Sherwin Williams Pro Classic. Next we began to eliminate the green that was so despised by the homeowner. Fortunately she could see past the color to the space instead.

Here is the Den which was a putrid pink!! Much better now, you can enjoy the fantastic woodwork instead of being drawn into the awful color.

The dining room was black, so this wonderful light yellow was quite the contrast Thanks to Sherwin Williams ProBlock for covering those walls. And yes, the green is out of the halls too. Enjoy!

Here's a spiffy bathroom renovation we were able to do for a great couple out in McMurray PA. Above is a photo of the completed project and  we'll continue with a walk through the process.

This was what we had to start with. Dated tile, shower door, color scheme, toilet and water damage too. The goal was a new tile floor and shower along with new toilet, vanity and fixtures.

Everything starts with demolition! Once the tile floor was out, the sub-floor could be assessed. We removed a waterlogged section of the floor and unfortunately the wall it supported. Our plumber capped the supply lines and we began the rebuild process.

Once the new sub-flooring, wall and plumbing was back in place the new TileRedi shower pan was installed. This is a wonderful product for tile bases!

The existing walls had lots of texture from previous wallpaper removals so we replaced the damaged ones to save time in the long run. Once the new drywall and cement board for the tile are installed. The walls are primed, and ready for paint and tile installation.

Shower flooring goes in first and then the step. We had a great piece of marble cut for the job at the Stone Connection out on Neville Island. They do quick wonderful work! Next the walls go up!! On the edges we used metal track for a crisp finish. Last, the flooring. Sorry the photo isn't fantastic but the floor is!

When the vanity was fitted in place, the supply lines were half an inch to short! That's when you get in a good plumber to add an extension. A shark bite fitting would have been below the cabinet base height so not an option. However, a little patience and there you have it!

New lighting and mirror are installed. The final step was this really sweet barn style glass door from Rex Glass. They were very professional to work with from start to finish.

Thus another fantastic job done and with a great deal of satisfaction and happy customers, we can move on to the next one.

Here's a beauty we did this past Spring!

We started with finding new holes behind the large mirror; then removed old Reznor wall heating unit, toilet, vanity and accessories. The fun part was replacing the tile where the wall heater came from. We carefully extracted existing tile from the space where new vanity would go and inserted old tile! Notice the holes in wall from old toilet tank which was screwed into the old tile. We filled and grouted them to be touched up in the final phase.

All walls and ceiling were painted with Sherwin Williams Duration to hold up in the changing climate of a bathroom. The trim was painted with Sherwin Williams Pro Classic for its durability. Final touch ups included matching tile color as close as possible to cover holes in our green tile and also three holes in the black.

We had fun on this painting turned remodeling job! We painted the old greens and yellows to current greys with bright white trim, to make a classy fresh look!

As always the prep work includes patching holes. Usually from where old paintings and window treatments were hung; then a good coat of paint.

The bathroom was going to be painted until we convinced the Mary and Dan  that it would be best to remove the dated lighting, vanity and cabinets. So, away we went! removing it all and replacing it with a clean white and grey look. The original orange tile accents were an awesome touch!

Here's another sample of our interior work from a very nice dwelling over in the neighboring Mt Lebanon.

And here's where it started, the trim was painted the same colors as the wall which hid these great features. There were several areas needing patching and repairs, the kitchen ceiling being the worst. So we begin, putting plastic across all  doorways, covering cabinets and appliances, ram board on floors, plastic and then tarps. What a mess this stuff makes!

But in the end, we have a ceiling that is beautifully repaired, primed and painted!
A new light fixture helps brighten things up too. We accented the walls with a darker hue on the bulkheads and carries into the dining room. A recommended flat white ceiling is always a plus.

The original job called for the kitchen and  dining room, but the home owners liked our work so much we moved into  the living room, through the entryway, and up the stairs to the hall. The front wall of the living room extended  into the front hall, so it was accented with the darker tone to flow  with the kitchen and dining rooms.

We had a small problem child bathroom over in Upper Saint Clair that turned out rather well for us and the customer. A problem in ventilation led to this messy repair job. After placing tarps to catch debris and covering the fixtures, we scraped off the bad plaster. Removed all of the mess, cleaned the area and began the repairs.

After a base coat of quick set, we sanded and applied a finish coat. We sanded again and skimmed it with a final touch. Then it was time for a coat of "Silky White" paint to the ceiling, and the walls received a fresh coat of "Classic Silver".

Our customer had beautiful artwork and accents too, the overall design worked well with the color scheme.

Long time no blog, but we are always on Instagram and sometimes on Facebook too. This swell home was out in McMurray PA and needed a good bit of repair work and painting. Here is the completed entry looking into the living room.

The Hall around the corner to the left is where the repairs started. An 18 inch by 12 foot section was removed, replaced, and repainted! Here we are starting the demolition phase.

Next was replacing a paneled wall in the den. Removing the old panels  was the easy part. Being able to do repairs of drywall is different than  liking to do it! Here it is finished and painted twice.

The original paint color was a deep rose and wound up being to dark for  the room. We replaced it with a version of the color used in the office next door called "Honey Blush".

Bedrooms down the hall were both painted "Mauve Finery"

The living room had a continuation of the hall wall which we painted the  same light grey as the balance of the hall. The remaining walls were  painted with "Rosebud"
So there you have it, another happy customer! Enjoy!

Bold colors can be intimidating, but with the right selection and space, it can make a bland room stand out in your house. This first selection was a long family room with three windows running the length and a mirrored wall at the end. In essence, only three walls were painted. With contrasting white trim and windows, this Navy makes a splendid choice.

Here a well meaning sun room leaves the brightness behind with plain white walls.
Punching up the color adds life and brightness to the former white dullness.
Again, with lots of windows and an archway, the bold colors work well.

Grays can be bold, and accenting them with colors in connecting rooms  can make a wonderful statement. Here we have a wonderful cheery yellow  bedroom, gray hall and across the hall a turquoise bedroom. The Grays  throughout this house blend beautifully with the few colorful rooms.

Here in the dining room, the grays work together and stand out on the white trim. (See more from this project on Facebook)

This kitchen could have been boring with blue walls and all white cabinets. By blending the two and adding blue on the cabinet backs and center panels, this original built in kitchen cabinetry is brought to life. (See the whole kitchen here)

In a similar example, this bedroom was painted white with an accent wall  of black. The opposing wall was to have had solid black doors. By  adding the white inserts and a black mirror between the doors, we create  an alternating pattern that holds your eyes captive. (More on this one here)

And lastly, this strong yellow bedroom contrasts wonderfully with the purple in the master bath. The artwork added to the walls after the paint dried pulled the colors together in a most amazing way. More to come in a future post on this residence. Enjoy!
